We had a wonderful turn out at our first day at our new garden. Students and teachers showed up to dig, rake and mark out plots. We took turns rototilling. Students are planning to plant soon. What are you going to plant? I (Heidi) am hoping to plant carrots, onions and possibly lettuce and in the summer, tomatoes, squash, melons and flowers. I am looking forward to fresh and delicious produce. I can't wait to see the garden in April, May and June. This is such an exciting adventure.
Thanks to everyone and a special thanks to ALL STAR Rents for the rototiller and Bob and Betty (Heidi's parents) for helping with their rototiller. Thanks to my husband, Joe, for helping with the rototiller. Thank you also to the students and teachers who came and volunteered their tools and time even though they don't plan on having a garden plot. Thank you to the WJUSD maintenance team for mowing the weeds and getting the water working all on a Friday afternoon at the last minute. Thank you also to Susan, our principal, for her support, ideas and enthusiasm.
My children had fun playing baseball and looking for worms and meeting all of the students' children. It was a good time and my body is tired and a little sore. Everyone worked very hard and a lot was accomplished.
